    Perceived Status

    Status matters in podcasting. This is why so many top podcasts are hosted by celebrities — people who were already famous before they started podcasting.

    And it’s why listeners will take a chance on a new podcast released by a well-known company or network…

    Celebrities come to a podcast with something you may not have — perceived status. That’s why they get thousands of listens to each episode.

    The good news is, there are dozens of ways to gain this perceived status, even for “normal” people. Even for you!

    The Right Audience

    If you and I both owned hamburger stands and we had a contest to see who could sell the most hamburgers, what one advantage would make sure you won?”

    The correct answer is, “A starving crowd.”

    Without hungry customers, nothing else matters.

    The same is true for your podcast. You’ll never have a successful podcast if you’re targeting the wrong people (and most podcasters are).

    Focusing on the right people now will give you more freedom (and money) in the future.

    Monetization System

    Willie Sutton was a legendary bank robber. He had a forty-year robbery career and spent more than half of his adult life in jail, escaping three different times.

    Why did he rob banks? He told a newspaper reporter, “Because I enjoyed it. I loved it. I was more alive when I was inside a bank, robbing it, than at any other time in my life. I enjoyed everything about it so much that one or two weeks later I’d be out looking for the next job.”

    It helps if you approach your podcast the same way — you want to like what you’re doing.
